Holding Space
artistic creation as a practice of feminist freedom
Holding Space is a project celebrating artists from different generations in central Pennsylvania. It aims to honor the diverse backgrounds of both PA natives and newcomers who have chosen this area as their home. At the core of this project is appreciation for the numerous women and girls contributing to the cultural landscape of central Pennsylvania, often crafting beautiful works amidst the economic challenges of the Susquehanna Valley.
Funds generated through this initiative will support feminist artists in our area by increasing access resources including:
-
Dedicated studio and rehearsal space, including associated costs, at the Art Academy explicitly for women and gender nonconforming artists
-
Sponsorship of classes and art therapy offerings
-
Assistance with transportation to and from the Art Academy and other artistic venues
-
Opportunities to read and discuss aesthetic and feminist theory in a safe, organic, accessible, and diverse community
-
Refining and renovating existing spaces to be more welcoming of diverse bodies and minds
